A CUIK
Story
CUIK is a “Moonshot” initiative by Cutting Edge Signs Ltd. Cutting Edge Signs was established in 1999 by David Guthardt (Gus) and has been the leading sign manufacturer in the Nelson-Tasman region ever since.
From 2016 the business is owned by David’s son Matthew along with Arko Biswas. They
have maintained their “cutting edge” reputation and invested in digital technology and in a
multi-talented team of skilled designers and craftsmen. Cutting Edge was the only sign maker
in the region to be a certified Climate Positive operation.
The concept of CUIK originated from our regular experience with Corflute signs. We have especially been concerned about the community advertisements in Bishopdale and Atawhai.
These temporary signs cost over $250 and after two weeks of life they end up in the landfill.
Most of the signs hardly follow Waka Kotahi regulations. These are inconvenient for the advertiser to transport and install. Advertisers also seldom collect their expired panels. These sign have
little impact on their audience and are not scalable.

After intense research over the past couple of years, visiting trade shows overseas and a substantial investment, the project has evolved to be CUIK; a community-minded, environment-friendly solution that has a self-sustained business model.
