CUIK started as a local idea with a simple aim: give small businesses and community organisations the visibility they deserve. Although coming from signage background, we wanted to move beyond the waste and limitations of corflute signs and build something smarter, measurable, more connected, and designed to last longer than the next gust of wind.
The goal was a community-driven navigation platform that helps people explore their region, powered by commercial partners so non-profits never lose their voice. And it had to be built right here in Nelson, by locals, for locals.
The idea surfaced in 2019. Then came COVID, red tape, and the usual chorus of “are you sure this will work?”
In December 2023, Nelson Airport said yes. Our first kiosk went live.
It wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t supposed to be. Innovation rarely arrives fully polished.
Today, CUIK operates three kiosks across the Nelson Tasman region and two in Kaikōura, with more on the horizon.
CUIK started as a moonshot for a small, family-owned business. Today, it’s a growing ecosystem built on connection, curiosity, and community. Our ambition is simple: to help regions tell their stories better, give local voices more space, and build infrastructure that grows with the places it serves.
